Fudan Management Awards Laud Academicians for Contributions to Chinese Market Economy

Fudan, Nov. 25: Winners of 2008’ Fudan Management Awards were unveiled on November 20 in the City of Shenzhen.

Former Vice Premier LI Lanqing, a year-1952 Fudan alumnus of the School of Business (predecessor of today’s School of Management), addressed the ceremony and presented the prizes to three awardees.

LI initiated the Fudan Premium Fund of Management in 2005, which hands out awards annually to domestic scholars or others who have made outstanding contribution in three fields of management development in China, that is, Management Science, Business Management, and Public Management.

Every year, award-winners will be picked up from one of those three areas in rotation. This year, the three winners are from the research field of Public Management.

Professor HAO Mo in School of Public Health at Fudan University, Professor HU An’gang who is director of Center for China Study at Chinese Academy of Sciences & Tsinghua University, and Professor HUANG Jikun who is director of Center for Chinese Agricultural Policy at Chinese Academy of Sciences, are going to share the prize of 1 million RMB in total for this year.

Party-secretary of Guangdong Province WANG Yang, and Shenzhen City’s Party-secretary LIU Yupu and Mayor XU Zongheng attended the event.

Following the awarding ceremony was Fudan International Management Forum, titled in “Reform and development of public management.”

Famed scholars and well-known leaders of public organizations, such as Professors CHENG Siwei, ZHENG Bijian and WEI Liqun, were invited to deliver keynote speeches at the forum.

In his greeting address, LI Lanqing said that, in light of 30 years of reform and open-up progress in China, a lot of progress has been made in the research field of management development.

He hoped that domestic management researchers and others will keep up with their paces in the field of management development, and continue to contribute to improving the theoretical system for socialistic progress with Chinese characteristics.

Guangdong Provincial Party-secretary WANG Yang said that, management science is one of necessary intangible resources to drive forward the economic and social development. As the first of its kind in domestic management academia, the Fudan Premium Fund of Management has helped propel the growth of Chinese management science, by providing preferential stimulus and encourage domestic talents to continue their research in that field.

He added that, scientifically-sound management has played a pivotal role in pushing Guangdong Province to climb the highs of social and economic progress during the past 30 years.

He ensured that the province will keep innovating its management system, improving managing skills, and dedicating itself to building up a service-oriented government.

Candidates to the fund awards have gone through a strict evaluation by an expert panel, which consists of management professionals from both home and abroad.

The three award-winners of this year expressed during their speeches that, it is on the China’s path of reform and open-up pursuits that they have been able to made progress in respected research areas.

Meanwhile, the City of Shenzhen has won a reputation as the test land of reform and open-up policies in China. From this aspect, it is meaningful to hold the 2008’ Fudan Management Awards in the city, in coincidence with the 30th anniversary of the national reform and open-up progress.

And they said that, it is a strong message delivered by the awarding that the domestic researchers should closely combine their work with Chinese reform and open-up practices.



Professor HAO Mo, who is from School of Public Health at Fudan University

Professor HAO Mo is director of Research Center of Health Development Strategies at Fudan University, who plays a leading role in the national research of medical and health management. He is also chief expert on establishment of Chinese disease prevention and control system and of health supervisory system by Ministry of Health.

His expertise lies in research of important health issues, paths of Chinese healthcare work. He dedicates himself to supporting crucial medical policies through scientific research, and has made remarkable progress in exploring health research methods, improving disease prevention and control system, as well as alleviating the poverty of Chinese farming peasants which is resulted from illness.



Professor HU An’gang, who is director of Center for China Study at Chinese Academy of Sciences & Tsinghua University

Professor HU An’gang claims reputation as being one of front-runners and leaders in the field of China study. He is also one member of an experts’ commission of national “11th five-year plan”.

He has made tremendous progress in national key development strategies and decision-making consultation, research of development gaps between regions in China and public policies, as well as of employment and public policies.



Professor HUANG Jikun, who is director of Center for Chinese Agricultural Policy at Chinese Academy of Sciences

Professor HUANG Jikun has his expertise lie on the issues of agricultural policies in China. He is also researcher and PhD supervisor in Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, vice chair of Chinese Association of Agricultural Economics, advisor and counselor for World Bank and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

He has built up a reputation in agricultural bio-technology development strategies and policies, supply-and-demand trading policy analysis and prediction models of agricultural products, empirical research in agricultural economy and management discipline.

At the end of the event, Former Vice Premier LI Lanqing gave his latest books to the award-winners as gifts.
